In healthy lifestyle, not genes, Spanish researchers attribute the secret of longevity.
As it is been written in the Journal of Gerontology, scientists reached that conclusion after studying bone mineral density and analyzed the genes of a man aged 113 years from the island of Minorca in the Balearic Islands.
According to expert researches at the University of Barcelona, the man did not carry a mutation of the gene LRP5 associated with longevity, nor KLOTHO gene associated with good levels of bone density. However, it is suggested that the skeleton had been passed in the process of normal deterioration due to age, with the result of becoming fractures.
A year later the man died, but experts have gone to the man’s family members. They noted that a balanced Mediterranean diet – based on tomatoes, olive oil and fish – combined with regular physical exercise were the key factors for the excellent state of health of elders of the family.
In fact, the previous longest man on Earth until the age of 102 years, did cycling daily and was dealing with the care of the family orchard.
